Perplexus 3D Mazes Review – We’re ADDICTED

A few weeks ago, before we headed out of town on vacation, we received the best toys from PlaSmart, the Perplexus 3D mazes.  They sent us 2 different mazes, the Perplexus Rookie, for kids 4+ and the Perplexus Original for ages 6+.  My 5 year old was extremely excited when they arrived, I couldn’t get them out of the box fast enough for her.  When I was taking the picture at the top, she was jumping up and down behind me yelling “Can I open it? Can I open it?” until I was finished.  She has seen the Perplexus in the toy store, and she couldn’t wait for the challenge.

I gave her the Rookie, and I was just as excited to try out the Perplexus Original.  I have to say, the mazes are difficult, but neither of us wanted to put them down.  We were hooked.  I wasn’t sure how well my daughter would be able to do the maze, but she was so engrossed and determined to figure it out and after many tries, she finally made her way through the entire maze.  Now, of course since she and I were both hooked on the Perplexus mazes, my younger kids also wanted in on the action.

My 3 year old tried really hard.  She understood the concept, but she was moving too fast to keep the ball on the track.  She doesn’t quite have the focus needed to be able to make it through the maze, but she’s pretty determined, so I think she’ll figure it out.

Little Man also was determined to get in on the action…he obviously couldn’t do it, but he liked making the little ball go all around inside of the maze.

When I was playing with the Perplexus original, I quickly learned that slow and steady helps you get through the mazes.

A few days after we received our Perplexus balls, we went on vacation to visit some family.  They were great in the car, though trying to do them in a moving car definitely added an another challenge.  The entire week we were away, the Perplexus balls kept us entertained.  Everyone tried to solve them.  My mom and I stayed up late 2 nights in a row, racing each other through the maze on the Perplexus original.  Neither of us were very fast, but it was a lot of fun.

On the 4th of July my cousin and his daughter both took on the Perpelxus Challenge!

I have to say, I’ve only made it all the way through twice without falling off, and I’ve tried hundreds of times.  I really like that the Perplexus original has 3 different starting spots, the beginning, one approximately 1/3 of the way through and then one that is 2/3 of the way through.  This way if you fall off you don’t have to start all over again.

The Perplexus 3D mazes take a steady hand, and focus.  If you like a challenge, and you like mazes, then you are going to LOVE the Perplexus.  I can’t wait to try out the Perplexus Epic, the next level up, but I guess I should master the Perplexus Original first!
