Just recently I was told about the Rainbow Loom. Since then, everywhere I turn I see kids making, and wearing the bracelets! My girls spent last weekend with their cousins in Cleveland, and when we picked them up on Sunday to head out for vacation they both had an armful. My nieces and nephews were all wearing them, my brother-in-law was wearing some, and by the end of the week, my niece, who we took on vacation with us, had made one for me and one for my husband. When we got home, my eldest (who is 6) was BEGGING for a loom for herself.
Being the bargain shopper, I came home and looked up the Rainbow Loom. Unfortunately, since it’s the hottest toy around right now, there aren’t many fabulous deals, but this is what I’ve found so far!
First, I found the basic set, Twistz Bandz Rainbow Loom, which is currently $14.99 with $2.90 for shipping. There is one that has free shipping with Prime, but right now it’s $18.99, so the one where you pay shipping is actually the better deal . (In case you are interested, Since Amazon’s prices tend to jump around, here is the link to the Rainbow Loom with free Prime Shipping). Having spoken to a bunch of teens who have the Rainbow Loom, this is a great starter kit. FYI, the Loom with the free shipping is a drop in price by $1 from last week .
The Twistz Bandz Rainbow Loom comes with:
- Two templates, Hook, C-clips, Instruction, and 600+ pieces latex free rubber bands
- Makes up to 24 rubber band bracelets.
As I learned during last week, bracelets can be made in several different ways, and the single band ones are the easiest ones to make and use the fewest bands.
As I continued to search, because I know that once my daughter starts making them she’s going to want the refill bands (and my niece already asked me to find her a good deal on the refills), I found a bigger kit. Rainbow Loom Deluxe Kit – Includes 3600 bands including Glow in the Dark for $64.95. This kit is AWESOME, and definitely a better deal to start up, if you know your kids are going to really want to make the bracelets!
The Rainbow Loom Deluxe Kit Comes With:
- 1 Complete Rainbow Loom kit which includes the original Rainbow Loom, RBL hook with base opener and the Mini Rainbow Loom
- Includes 300 bands of 10 different colors – including Glow-in-the-Dark
- Includes mixed bag of 600 rubber bands, more than 100 C-clips and it is all packed in a Plano collector case
- Includes 1 bag of ring-size Krazy Bands which make for great charms in your bracelets (see image)
- TOTAL: 3600 Rainbow Loom brand bands
Since refills cost $5 – $6 for 600 (that’s the best price I’ve seen so far but of course I’m still looking), plus you have to purchase additional C clips, which are also $4 – $5 for 25 pieces, the refills alone to get the extra 3000 bands and extra c-clips would cost more than the difference between the 2 kits. PLUS, this kit also comes with a case to hold all of the bands, the loom, charms, tools, etc.
What I found, when looking at prices on the refills, is that your replacement bands should be under $.01 each. If they are more than $.01 each, keep looking for a better deal! The Glow in the Dark and Tie Dye bands are a little more expensive, but I was even able to the white Glow in the Dark bands for under $.01 each even though shipping wasn’t free.
Remember, pricing on Amazon can change quickly, so double check the prices before you buy!
